web

May 15, 2018 (Horseshoe Bay) – LCM’s Jack Burke (above) shot an 81 on Day Two of the 4A State Golf Tournament to finish tied to 11th.  He went into Day Two in fifth place after a round of 77.  The freshman was disappointed but already eager to get back to State next year.  “I struggled with my putts,” he said.  “My wedges and irons were good and I only had a few bad shots off the tee.”  The tournament took place on the Apple Rock course at Horseshoe Bay which is near Marble Falls.  It’s one of three courses at the resort.  “It was a really tough course,” said Burke, who only had one opportunity to play the course before the tournament.  Burke played the tournament with defending champ Jeryn Pruitt from Brownwood, who finished third.  Burke said he was not intimidated though.  “I like playing against good competition.  I think it makes me play better.”  Burke, the top finishing freshman, said he enjoyed the experience and hopes to have many more.  Just because the high school season is over doesn’t mean Burke is taking time off.  He said he has a summer schedule set up that has him playing a tournament almost every weekend during the summer.
