HUCKABY, EWING, TIPPINS NAMED ALL-ACADEMIC

March 15 (LCM) – Thirteen Orange County basketball players (girls and boys) were recently named to the Texas High School Coaches Association (THSCA) All-Academic Basketball Team.  Of the thirteen, Lady Bears Grace Huckaby, Kaitlyn Ewing, and DeAsia Tippins were named to this years team.  Huckaby and Ewing both made Second Team while Tippins was named Honorable Mention.  

To be nominated for Academic All-State, a student must be: An athlete, student trainer or manager in good standing with the team; Of good moral character; A senior: Have an overall grade-point average of 92 or above (including courses grades 9-11 and courses completed from grade 12). Weighted GPAs accepted.

LADY BEARS TREMENDOUS SEASON ENDS IN QUARTERFINALS

February 22 (Winnie) – The Lady Bears temendous season came to an end following a 55-46 loss to the Huffman Lady Falcons in the Class 4A Region III Quarterfinals Tuesday night at East Chambers High School.  Asia Robinson led the Lady Bears with 15 points while Keylie Washburn finished with twelve.  “We just went out there and got after it to work as hard as we could,” Little Cypress-Mauriceville head coach Eddie Michalko said. “We ran up against a very good Huffman team – very athletic, very skilled at certain positions and they did a great job.”  The Lady Bears finished the season with an overall record of 25-10 and a three-round deep playoff run.  “It was a good year for us. I can’t be upset about it,” Michalko added.

 


 

LADY BEARS CLAIM AREA TITLE IN THRILLER

February 18 (Crosby) – The Lady Bears won a thriller Friday night in Crosby to win their 10th straight game and claim the 4A Region III Area championship.  LCM held off the Houston Washington Lady Eagles (17-13) to win 56-55 in a game that went down to the final second.  Freshman Keylie Washburn led the Lady Bears in with 18 points while Kaitlyn Ewing had a solid game with thirteen.  The Lady Bears (25-9) will now face the Huffman Lady Falcons in the Class 4A Region III Regional Quarterfinals next Monday or Tuesday.  Huffman defeated Brookshire-Royal 69-58 in the area round Friday night. 

 


 

LADY BEARS CRUISE PAST LIVINGSTON IN PLAYOFF OPENER

February 14 (East Chambers) – The Lady Bears cruised past the Livingston Lady Lions 61-30 in the 4A Region III Bi-District round Monday night at Buccaneer Gym at East Chambers High School.  Asia Robinson had a huge game as she led the Lady Bears with 26 points.  Keylie Washburn had 18 points and Aniyah Robinson finished with twelve.  LCM (24-9, 9-3) will look to extend their winning streak to ten games Friday night when they take on the Houston Washington Lady Eagles in the Region III Area round.  Game time is 7:15 p.m. at Crosby High School.


 

LADY BEARS LOCK DOWN 2ND PLACE IN DISTRICT

February 8 (LCM) – The Lady Bears closed out the 2021-22 regular season with their 8th straight district win Tuesday night.  The girl’s edged the Orangefield Lady Bobcats 37-34 in front of a packed house for Senior Night.  Led by freshman Keylie Washburn’s (above) 10-points the Lady Bears secured a second place finish in District 22-4A.  LCM (23-9, 9-3) will now wait to find out their opponent with playoffs beginning next week.

LADY BEARS NOTCH SIXTH STRAIGHT DISTRICT WIN

January 28 (LCM) – The Lady Bears held off the Lady Mustangs 48-43 for win #20 and their sixth straight district win.  Keylie Washburn (above) led LCM in scoring with 19-points while Asia Robinson put up twelve and sister Aniyah Robinson finished with ten.  The Lady Bears are now 7-3 in District 22-4A and 21-9 overall.  The girls JV won their game over the Lady Mustangs JV 40-6. 


 

LUMBERTON NO MATCH AS LADY BEARS WIN #20

January 25 (Lumberton) – The Lady Bears basketball team continued their hot streak as they downed the Lumberton Lady Raiders 42-27 to pick up their 20th win of the season.  Asia Robinson led the Lady Bears with 11-points, Aniyah Robinson finished with 10-points, and Keylie Washburn had eight.  The girls are on a 5-game district win streak and are now 6-3 in 22-4A and 20-9 overall. 


 

LADY BEARS BLISTER LADY CARDINALS

January 21 (Bridge City) - The Lady Bears continued their hot streak as they blistered the Bridge City Lady Cardinals 85-17 in district action at Bridge City Friday night.  LCM, now 5-3 in 22-4A after starting 1-3, have been powered by the Robinson sisters (Asia, Aniyah, and Amanni) and freshman sensation Keylie Washburn (above).  Washburn finished the game with 26 points and 8 boards while Asia Robinson had a double-double with 11-points and 11-boards.  Mackenzie Clark was 5-for-5 on 3-point attempts, scoring all fifteen of her points in the second half.  Aniyah Robinson had 11-points and 7-boards, Kaitlyn Ewing added 6-points, and Amanni Robinson finished with five.  The Lady Bears (19-9, 5-3) will take on a tough Lady Raider team on Tuesday at Lumberton.

LADY BEARS TAKE THIRD IN EC TOURNAMENT

December 27-29 (East Chambers) – The Lady Bears travelled to East Chambers and took part in the Lady Buccs Christmas Classic basketball tournament.  LCM jumped out fast on Thursday and Friday with four straight wins.  The Lady Bears downed East Chambers 54-23, PNG 46-41, Hamshire-Fannett 53-36, and Bridge City 52-33.  In the opening game Saturday, LCM fell to Woodville 44-32 and then bounced back with a big win over Hamshire-Fannett to win third place overall in the tournament.  The girls now stand at 15-8 overall and 1-2 in district play.

VARSITY TAKES THIRD AT EVADALE

December 2-4 (Evadale) – The Lady Bears Varsity took 3rd Place at the three-day Evadale Lady Rebels Tournament.  On Thursday LCM defeated West Hardin 31-18 and then fell to Kirbyville 42-38.  On Friday the girls cruised past West Orange-Stark 45-24 to set up a Saturday match-up with Hamshire-Fannett for 3rd place.  The Lady Bears made the most of their opportunity as they downed the Lady Longhorns 45-24 to claim the 3rd place trophy.  Freshman Keylie Washburn (above – standing far right) was named to the All-Tournament Team.  The Lady Bears (7-5, 0-0) will host Hull-Daisetta on Tuesday.

VARSITY PLAYS STRONG IN NEDERLAND TOURNAMENT

November 18-20 (Nederland) – The Lady Bears play solid ball as they went 4-2 in the Nederland Lady Bulldog Tournament.  LCM came out strong as they downed Liberty 44-39 and Bridge City 23-19 in Thursday’s action.  On Friday the Lady Bears cruised past Kelly 46-16 before dropping their first game of the tourney to Evadale 50-34.  Saturday morning saw the girls pull out a 1-point win over the PNG Lady Indians 35-34.  In the final game, the Lady Bears (4-3, 0-0) lost to West Orange-Stark 48-25.


 

LADY BEARS JV WINS BC TOURNEY

November 13 (Bridge City) – Coach Carlie Fults and her Lady Bears JV basketball team went undefeated in the Bridge City Lady Cardinals tournament this weekend to take 1st Place in the tourney.  Asia Robinson (above center) was also named MVP of the tournament.  The Lady Bears freshman team finished third.
