MORRIS & WRIGHT TO PLAY AT THE NEXT LEVEL

February 1 (LCM) – It was a great day for Battlin’ Bear Football as two of their own signed to play football at the next level.  Running Back/Defensive Back Da’Marion Morris (above) signed to play for the Crusadors of Mary Hardin-Baylor while Offensive Lineman Brady Wright (below) will head to Lake Charles to play for the McNeese State Cowboys.

WASHINGTON INKS WITH TEXAS TECH

January 11 (LCM) – Surrounded by family, friends, coaches and teachers, Amier Washington held his signing day Wednesday afternoon.  The 6-3, 244 pound senior will be heading to Lubbock to play football at Texas Tech University.  Washington is one of the most celebrated players to come out of the Battlin’ Bear football program and has received numerous awards and recognitions over the past four years.

FOUR BEARS MAKE ALL-STATE ACADEMIC TEAM

December 8 (LCM) – Four Battlin’ Bears were recognized for their accomplishments on the field and in the classroom.  Seniors Isaiah PicardLucas WrightDean Reynolds, and Brenner Portie (above L-R) were named to the UIL All-State Academic Team.  Reynolds was a 2nd Team selection while Picard, Wright, and Portie were Honorable Mentions.

SEVERAL BEARS RECEIVE ALL-DISTRICT RECOGNITION

November 17 (LCM) – Area coaches met and made their selections for the 2022 10-4A D1 All-District Team this past week.  The Battlin’ Bears had several players recognized.  Da’Marion Morris was named Offensive MVP and Amier Washington was named Defensive MVP.  Safety Jackson Smith was recognized as the Defensive Newcomer of the Year.  Offensive lineman Jan Nazario  and Brady Wright made 1st Team Offense while Jarves Riley (DE) and Da’Marion Morris (DB) made 1st Team Defense.   Kyler Garlaska (WR) made 2nd Team Offense and Jose Molina (DT) and Luke McDow (LB) made 2nd Team Defense.  Honorable Mentions went out to Jacob Pollock at WR and FS, Tucker Floyd (LB), Jordan Pollock (TE), and Elijah Allison (WR).

BEARS FALL IN BI-DISTRICT ROUND TO BULLDOGS

November 11 (Lufkin) – The Battlin’ Bears fell to the Kilgore Bulldogs, 28-6, in a hard-fought Class 4A Region III Division I Bi-District playoff meeting at Abe Martin Stadium Friday night.  The Bears battled not only battled a tough Kilgore team but also battled against a cold front that brought strong winds and heavy rain for most of the game.  It was a close game in the first half as the Bulldogs held to a slim 7-6 lead going into the half.  Kilgore (8-3) pushed it to a 14-6 lead in the third before adding two late fourth quarter scores to pull away for the win.  Senior Da’Marion Morris (above) had a standout game as he rolled up 133 yards on 23 carries and 1 touchdown.  Defensively, Dylan Payne (bleow) had a big game as he racked up 12 tackles, 1 assist, 3 tackles for loss, a pass break-up, and a fumble recovery.  Amier Washington finished with 5 tackles, 2 assists, 2 tackles for loss, 1 sack, and 3 QB prssures.  The Bears finish the season at 6-5 and for only the third time in school history, posted back-to-back winning seasons.

MORRIS AND BEARS CRUISE PAST HUFFMAN

November 4 (LCM) - Senior back Da’Marion Morris racked up 235 yards rushing and set a new school record with six rushing touchdowns in a game as the Bears cruised past the visiting Huffman Falcons 48-16 Friday night.  LCM (6-4, 3-2) wrapped up the third-place playoff seed out of 10-4A Division I and will move on to face Kilgore, the District 9-4A Division I runnerups, in the Class 4A Region III Division I bidistrict playoffs next week. The two teams will battle it out next Friday at 7 p.m. at Lufkin High School.

BEARS CRUISE TO VICTORY OVER SPLENDORA

October 21 (LCM) – The Bears cruised to a 55-9 victory over the Splendora Wildcats in District 10-4A play at Battlin’ Bear Stadium Friday night.  LCM jumped all over the Wildcats in the first half behind the running of senior tailback Da’Marion Morris (above right) and the hands of Kyler Garlaska (above center).  Morris had 160 yards and three touchdowns (56, 20, and 69) on just seven carries while Garlaska hauled in two touchdown passes (25 and 40) from Dean Reynolds.  Jonah Fuller (above left) had a huge night as he finished with two touchdowns, an interception, 3.5 tackles, and assisted on a sack.  Defensively the Bears held Splendora (1-7, 0-3) to 56 yards rushing and 115 passing behind the solid play of Jacob Pollock (10 tackles), Jackson Smith (8 tackles), Tucker Floyd (7 tackles, 3 tackles for loss, and a sack).  Floyd’s twin brother Mason Floyd had 3-tackles and a forced fumble that was recovered by Luke McDow (6 tackles).  The Bears (5-3, 2-1) will head to Lumberton next Friday night for a huge district game with the Raiders (7-1, 3-0).

BEARS HANDLE LIONS IN BIG DISTRICT WIN

October 14 (Livingston) – The Bears came away with a big district win Friday night as they downed the Livingston Lions 35-12.  Da’Marion Morris (above) had a huge game as he scored all five LCM touchdowns and piled up 192 yards (123 rushing and 69 receiving).  The Bears defense held the high-powered Lions out of the endzone until the second half and did a solid job containing Lion standout quarterback Jontavian McNeal.  The Bears (4-3, 1-1) will be back at home next Friday night when they host the Splendora Wildcats at 7:30pm.

BEARS TAKE DOWN TITANS ON HOMECOMING

September 30 (LCM) – It was Homecoming for the Bears as they played their first home game of the season at the newly renovated Battlin’ Bear Stadium.  LCM fans packed the stands to see the Bears take on the high-powered Spring Legacy Titans.  The Bears did not disappoint as they came away with a big 50-34 win.  Senior quarterback Dean Reynolds completed 16-of-21 passes for 222 yards and three touchdowns as the Bears racked up 404 yards offensively.  Da’Marion Morris had a huge night as he finished with 83 yards on 18 carries, three touchdowns on the ground, a fourth touchdown on a pass from Reynolds, and an interception on defense.  Jacob Pollock snagged four passes for 52 yards while Kyler Garlaska had three catches for 80 yards.  Senior Jose Molina (#99 above) and the Bear defense racked up five sacks and held the Titans to under 100 yards rushing.  Luke McDow had 10 tackles while Jarves Riley finished with 3.5 tackles, 2 pass deflections, and 2 sacks.  The Bears (3-2, 0-0) will begin district play next Friday night when they travel to Vidor to take on the Pirates.

BEARS FALL ON ROAD TO KINCAID

September 16 (Houston) – The Bears dropped a tough 23-6 decision to the Houston Kincaid Falcons (2-2) Friday night in Houston.  The Falcons opened up quickly with a 77-yard kickoff return by Notre Dame commit Micah Bell to go up 7-0.  The Bears would cut it to a 7-6 game on a 1-yard Da’Marion Morris touchdown early in the second quarter.  The Falcons would add a 26-yard field goal as time expired in the half to make it 10-6.  Kincaid would find the endzone twice in the second half to come away with the 23-6 win.  LCM finished with 181 yards of offense (110 rushing/71 passing) with Morris rushing for 83 yards on 19 carries and the Bears lone touchdown.  Luke McDow was the defensive standout as he racked up 10 solo tackles, 3 assists, 3 tackles for loss, and a forced fumble.  Kincaid put up 246 yards (183 rushing/63 passing) on the night.  Coach Peevey and the Bears (2-2) will have a bye next Friday and will then host the Legacy School for Homecoming on Friday, September 30 at 7:30pm.

BEARS USE STRONG SECOND HALF TO DOWN CARDINALS

September 9 (Bridge City) – The Battlin’ Bears picked up win #2 on the season as they downed the Bridge City Cardinals 41-7 Friday night.  The Bears took a 14-7 lead at the half behind two touchdowns by Da’Marion Morris (pictured above).  Morris added a third touchdown early in the third quarter and then the Bears poured it with touchdowns by Dean Reynolds, Elijah Allison, and Jonah Fuller.  Morris had 18-carries on the night for 142 yards and 3-TD’s.  Reynolds was 15-of-27 for 257 yards and a TD.  The toughdown throw was a 61-yard bomb to Allison who hauled in a game-high 7 catches for 108 yards.  Defensively the Bears allowed 178 yards and only gave up 37 yards in the second half.  Morris and Jackson Smith each had an interception while Amier Washington gave Cardinal quarterback Hutch Bearden pressure the entire game and racked up two sacks.  The Bears (2-1) will hit the road next Friday as they head to Houston to take on the Kincaid Falcons.

BEARS BATTLE MUSTANGS IN INSTANT CLASSIC

September 1 (Bridge City) – It was what they call an “Instant Classic” as the 2022 Orange Bowl between the Bears and the West Orange-Stark Mustangs went down to the wire at Bridge City’s Larry Ward Stadium Thursday night.  After an action packed four-quarters the Mustangs managed to edge the Bears 38-32.  LCM jumped out 20-8 early in the second quarter on touchdowns by Da’Marion Morris (2) and Jacob Pollock.  WOS answered with the next three scores to take a 32-20 halftime lead.  The Bears battled back and cut into the lead on a 33-yard touchdown catch by Elijah Allison early in the third and then tied the game 32-32 on a 2-yard Dean Reynolds run with 9:42 left in the game.  The Mustangs would find the endzone with 3:53 left in the game and held off the Bears to escape with the win.  For a complete look at all the stats click on the link below.  LCM (1-1) will head back to Larry Ward Stadium next Friday night when they take on the Bridge City Cardinals (1-1).

BEARS TAKE SEASON OPENER OVER HAWKS

August 26 (Port Arthur) – Coach Peevey and the Battlin’ Bears opened the 2022 season with a two-day, yes two-day 35-0 shutout win over the Hardin-Jefferson Hawks.  The game began Thursday at BISD Memorial Stadium and by the end of the first quarter play was stopped because of a strong storm moving through Beaumont.  Play was re-scheduled for Friday afternoon at Memorial Stadium in Port Arthur.  The Bears held a 7-0 lead at the end of Thursday night’s action and came out strong Friday as they put up 21-points on the Hawks in the second quarter.  LCM would add another touchdown in the fourth quarter to make it 35-0.  Defensively the Bears set what is thought to be a new school record as they only gave up 58 total yards to HJ.  The Hawks had only 1-yard rushing and 57 yards passing.  Junior linebacker Luke McDow led the Bears with 5-tackles while Amier Washington finished with 3-tackles, a sack and two quarterback pressures.  Sophomore Jonah Fuller had a big interception, his first as a varsity Bear.  Offensively LCM put up solid numbers as they finished with 539 yards (293 rushing, 246 passing).  Senior quarterback Dean Reynolds went 14-of- 22 for 232 yards and a touchdown pass to Elijah Allison (above).  Reynolds also had 10-carries for 48-yards and two touchdowns.  Da’Marion Morris picked up where he left off last season as he had 18-carries for 172 yards and a touchdown.  Fuller, who had a solid night defensively, saw action at running back as he finished with 8-carries for 35 yards and a touchdown.  The Bears (1-0) will take on the West Orange-Stark Mustangs (1-0) next Thursday at Bridge City High School.  The Mustangs shut out the Nederland Bulldogs 32-0 in their opener Friday night.
