TWELVE BEARS EARN ALL-DISTRICT FOOTBALL RECOGNITION
November 17 – Twelve Bears earned All-District recognition for the 2023 season. Here are the selections for the 10-4A D1 All-District Football Team as selected by the district coaches. 1st Team Offense: Dylan Payne (QB), Jonah Fuller (RB), Khayden Reed (WR), and Carson Phelps (OL). 1st Team Defense: Demarco Bandiero (DT), Eddie Winters (DE), Tucker Floyd (OLB), Luke McDow (ILB), Kaden Boatman (DB), and Parker Freeman (P). 2nd Team Offense: Clayton Farwell (OL). 2nd Team Defense: Jackson Smith (DB).

PLAYERS OF THE GAME ANNOUNCED
October 23 (LCM) – Coach Peevey has announced his Players of the Game for Friday night’s big 35-7 win over the Splendora Wildcats. The Bear Down Award went to Kaden Boatman. Boatman had a huge game hauling in two touchdown receptions on offense and two interceptions on defense. Jonah Fuller was named the Offensive MVP. Fuller finished with 90 yards rushing and a touchdown. Tucker Floyd was named the Defensive MVP. Floyd racked up 5 tackles, 2 assists, 2 tackles for loss, 2 forced fumbles, and a sack. Special Teams MVP and the “Defensive Dawg” Award went to Eddie Winters. Winters finished the game with 3 tackles, 6 assists, 2 tackles for loss, and a quarterback pressure. Offensive lineman Jaylon Broussard earned the “Boss Hog” award and Diego Valasquez was named Scout Team MVP.

PLAYERS OF THE GAME VS LEGACY
October 2 (LCM) – Coach Peevey announced the “Players of the Game” for Friday night’s Homecoming thriller against the Legacy SS Titans. CO-MVP’s were Dylan Payne and Jonah Fuller who combined for 370 yards rushing for the game. Offensive MVP went to Carson McIlwain and the entire offensive line. McIlwain hauled in two touchdown catches while the line (Clayton Farwell, Carson Phelps, Nathan Childress, Jovany Molina, and Jaylon Broussard) paved the way for the Bears ground attack. Defensive MVP went to linebacker Tucker Floyd who racked up 5 solo tackles and 3 assists. The Defensive Dawg Award went to senior Luke McDow who finished the game with 5 tackles, 2 assists, an interception, and a PBU. The Specialty Award went to Jackson Smith, Carson Phelps received the Boss Hog Award, and AJ Graham was named the Scout Team MVP.
BEARS BATTLE TITANS IN THRILLER
Senior quarterback Dylan Payne ran for a career best 241 yards
September 29 (LCM) – The Bears battled the Legacy Titans in a thriller that went down to the last minute of the game. The Bears homecoming comeback attempt came up just feet short as the they fell, 34-33. The Bears jumped out to a 14-0 first quarter lead behind touchdowns by Carson McIlwain and J’Lynn Morris Legacy would come back in the second quarter and tie the game up 14-14 going into the half. The Titans went up 21-14 early in the third but the Bears answered back as Jonah Fuller scored on a 23-yard to cut the lead to 21-20. Legacy would add another touchdown late in the quarter taking a 27-20 lead into the final quarter. Again the Bears answered back when McIlwain caught his second touchdown pass of the game on a 15 yard pass from Dylan Payne as the Bears tied it up 27-27 with 8:17 left in the game. Legacy took over once again and re-took the lead 34-27 with 7:11 left. The Bears went back to work as they rolled down the field and with 0:53 left, Jonah Fuller found the endzone on a 2-yard run. LCM chose to go for the two-point conversion but came up just short of the goalline and Legacy escaped with the 34-33 win. The Bear offense rolled up 423 yards with 384 yards coming on the ground. Payne had a career game as he rushed for 241 yards on 32 carries. He went 5-of-13 through the air for 39 yards and 2-touchdowns. Fuller finished with 129 yards rushing and 2-touchdowns along with two receptions for 15 yards. Luke McDow led the Bear defense with 5 tackles, 2 assists, and an interception. LCM (2-3, 0-0) will begin district play next Friday as they host the Vidor Pirates (3-2).

September 9 (LCM) – Coach Peevey announced his Players of the Week for Friday night’s games against the Bridge City Cardinals. Jackson Smith (#14) was named the Bear Down MVP and the Special Teams MVP. Khayden Reed (#1) was named the Offensive MVP while Eddie Winters (#40) and Luke McDow (#5) both received Defensive MVP honors. The Boss HOGG award went to Javony Molina (#71) and the Defensive Dawg Award went to Tucker Floyd (#28). Dawson Stanley (#3) was named the Scout Team Player of the Week.

BEARS RECOGNIZED AFTER WEEK 1 PERFORMANCE
August 26 (LCM) – Coach Peevey has named the Players of the Week for the Bears following week one’s win at Hardin-Jefferson. The Bear Down MVP is junior Tucker Floyd (#28). Floyd was also named the Defensive MVP. Senior quarterback Dylan Payne (#16) was named the Offensive MVP. Special Teams MVP went to kicker Nick Smith (#27) who was a perfect 6-for-6 on extra points. Jaylon Broussard (#68) received the Boss Hog Award and the Defensive Dog Award went to Eddie Winters (#40). The Scout Team MVP was Isaac Woods (#40).
BEARS BLOWOUT HAWKS IN SEASON OPENER

August 25 (Sour Lake) – Coach Eric Peevey and his Battlin’ Bears opened the 2023 season with a convincing 42-7 blowout win over the Hardin-Jefferson Hawks Friday night. The Bears rolled up 376 yards while holding the Hawks to only 97 yards. Senior quarterback Dylan Payne went 7 of 15 for 95 yards passing and rushed 15 times for 94 yards. Jonah Fuller hit the 100-yard mark as he finished with 12 carries for 100yards. Junior linebacker Tucker Floyd led the Bears defense with 7 tackles, 2 sacks, and a forced fumble. Kaden Boatman and Daunte Greer each had an interception while Eddie Winters had 4 tackles and a fumble recovery. For complete Game STATS click the link below.
