If you want to explore the military, please take the ASVAB Test in the fall at LCM. When taken at a school, you can retake it sooner than when taken at MEPS.
Military Recruiters from many of the branches below visit the campus and are often available in the Bear Square during lunches on
Excused Absences – Students who pursue enlistment in a branch of the U.S. armed forces or uniformed services of the Texas National Guard can be excused for up to four absences. Students must get a form from Ms. Corbell, the attendance clerk, have the armed services official/recruiter sign, and attach a form on military letterhead with student’s name, date(s), and recruiter’s info. Student must return the two forms to Ms. Corbell after the visit for the absence(s) to be counted as excused. Each day will count as an excused absence for exemptions.

For students who want to experience a military environment while getting a first-class education, the five service academies offer a fully-funded tuition that includes books, board and medical and dental care.
The competition to get in is fierce. Admissions criteria include:- High school academic performance
- Standardized test scores (SAT or ACT)
- Athletics and extracurricular activities
- Leadership experience and community involvement
- A congressional letter of recommendation (not required by the Coast Guard Academy)

- The Hazelwood Act – This State of Texas benefit provides qualified veterans, spouses, and dependent children with an education benefit of up to 150 hours of tuition exemptions at Texas public colleges or universities (not private or out of state). The Minuteman Campaign is a U.S. Army Cadet Command initiative to offer Guaranteed Reserve Forces Duty (GRFD) scholarships to candidates that self-select for service in a Reserve component. The GRFD scholarship provides full tuition and fees or room and board ($12,000 per year) for up to four years at a public or private school. This program provides well-trained officers to the Reserve Components and improves the total Army force. If you are a high school senior interested in receiving an Army Reserve Officer Training Corps (ROTC) scholarship and commissioning into the Army Reserve, the GRFD Minuteman Scholarship provides you an excellent opportunity.
